As most of
you already know, the MENAW Board elections were held at the
closing session of the conference and the following were elected
to the Board (in English alphabetical order)
1- Beirut for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - BETA (Lebanon)
2- Center
for Animal Lovers - CAL (Iran)
3- Egyptian Society of Animal Friends (ESAF)
4- Egyptian
Society for Mercy to Animals - ESMA (Egypt)
5-
Practical Action (Sudan)
6-
Protecting Animal Welfare Society - PAWS (Kuwait)
7- Society
for the Protection of Animals Abroad - SPANA (Morocco)
The Constitution calls for the Board to elect a Chairperson,
Vice-Chairperson, and Secretary. These elections have been held
one after the other so an unsuccessful candidate for one
position could then run for another.
Ahmed El Sherbiny of ESAF was elected Chairperson.
(Ahmed originally felt it best to step down to allow new faces
to guide MENAW, but the Board majority persuaded him to remain
because MENAW is still fragile. Ahmed agreed, but only under
condition that he would step down as Chairperson at the next
MENAW conference where a new Chairperson would be elected).
